New Year's Resolutions, How did you do this year?

January  is the time for New Beginnings.  We set new goals, we write them down, we make vision boards all in hopes of being more organized and achieving our dreams.

Let's try something before you get to your 2016 resolutions.  Look back at your goals for 2015 and pick the top 5.  How did you do?  Did you achieve all of them?  Think about the ones you met, and the ones you didn't.  What made the difference?  Did you set realistic, measurable goals?

Think about these things while getting ready for 2016.  If you would like some help narrowing down your goals, contact me at betti@betticoffeypresents.com.  I would be happy to help.

Energize Without Disruptions for Improved Productivity!

If you count the number of disruptions and distractions you have in a single day… it’s overwhelming!  With emails, texts, endless pings, rings and vibrations…the concept of being able to just sit down and focus exclusively on one task is an inconceivable luxury!

We tell ourselves we need to stay connected in order to be productive and efficient. And were proud of our abilities to multi-task… but we need to swap multi-tasking for mindfulness!  By taking intentional periods away from technology and being able to focus in an absorbed way on a task were doing…we actually connect with our work, with each other and with high-quality, creative thinking!

You don’t have to go totally “off the grid”!  Just start building in small “notification-free” periods!  Start with 10 minutes then, as needed stretch the time that you’ll be laser focused.  You’ll be surprised with the quantity and quality of work you’ll complete! Your productivity will increase, communications will be more effective and you’ll feel more satisfied at the end of the day!

Think about these ideas:

Embrace the “Do Not Disturb” philosophy!  Turn off the notifications on your smartphones and computers for a time to realize improved productivity and really get things done!  Allow yourself to focus uninterrupted!

Communicate your plan to others.  Let your teams know what you’re doing to achieve better productivity!  When they see the results, they’ll adapt this time management skill for improved productivity and effectiveness to attain their own results!

Set goals for these focused sprints!  Decide on a couple of tasks you want to accomplish beforehand.  This will ensure that you’ll stay focused on your most important work without wasting time prioritizing!

And…Remember to establish these ideas in your personal arenas!  They work!

One of the most successful HorsePower Programs this year has been “Fueling Sustainable Productivity with HorsePower’s Energy Elements”!  Give me a call and let’s talk about utilizing the four Energy Elements in both your personal and professional arenas!

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions well in ourselves and others.

Being able to accurately understand and perceive a person's thoughts and emotions, even before exchanging words, through understanding nonverbal signals such as body language and facial expressions enables you to manage a relationship with success. Having the ability to reason, understand and manage yours and others emotions are strong components in relationship management and emotional intelligence!

People with a high emotional intelligence will perform better and achieve more! They can recognize and respond better to emotions and motivation using both their intellectual and emotional sides. You can improve your skills and abilities in emotional intelligence to better interact with others, be more self- confident, motivated and empathetic!

When you REALLY LISTEN you develop greater interpersonal effectiveness and understanding… and you achieve higher levels of performance in yourself and others! Because you have observed and listened to others – you will understand them better – and you will be better able to manage situations and achieve success. Listen and understand first – bring out the best in people – and turn problems into phenomenal opportunities – utilizing your social and emotional intelligence!

This is a fun, interactive component of Communicating with HorsePower! Learn how to sharpen your social skills and build positive and strong relationships in every area of your life!

“Motivating the Unmotivated...with HorsePower!”

The driving force by which humans achieve their goals

I remember at a corporate meeting a few years back when the speaker said:
“A manager is not responsible for motivating the team…he can lead them…but a person’s motivation comes from within.”  I’ll let that sink in…..
Then think about the statement: “Motivation is a choice, not a symptom.”  So true.

Lately my audiences have been the managers of lots of young people – millennials – and the topic always comes up that their difficult to motivate and keep happy. Yep…it is true that these talented young people are wired differently and keeping them vibrant and enthusiastic is a special skill.  However, that frustrated manager has the opportunity to instill a very important lesson for their young professionals to learn for their careers and their personal lives … “Motivation is a choice, not a consequence.”

Everyone gets disappointed with something at work.  A new graduate might feel that they're not growing or learning from the job - that it’s taking too long to move up.  A middle manager might be fed up being “the cheese” between a demanding boss and team.  A senior manager might be frustrated with the lack of growth, results and overall resistance to change. An entrepreneur might be frustrated with their growth and demands from investors.  Maybe you dislike someone in the office or can’t stand your annoying boss. The scenarios can go on and on…

The important lesson is that becoming unmotivated because of whatever is frustrating you is a mistake!
Motivation is a choice, not a consequence…you have a choice!

·      You can start taking control of your personal motivation by leaning into your work.  Be a positive contributor and team player who solves  issues!
·      When you get your hands dirty you learn more and that’s motivating!
·      If your contribution has solved a big problem the doors open for advancement!
·      Never, Ever burn bridges!  People you’ve worked with will remember you.  They might even become your clients!
·      Take charge of your future and career – don’t wait for someone else to give you a break!

Remember… You can’t light someone else’s fire… but you can create the conditions for that fire to burn brightly…with HorsePower!
